Art-o-mat Machine

We are proud to host an Art-o-mat machine!

What is Art-o-mat?

Art-O-Mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to dispense artwork for $5 each.

Winston-Salem artist Clark Whittington created the first machine as part of a solo show in 1997. The owner of the venue loved it, and asked for it to be a permanent installation. He quickly realized he would need more artists to help supply artwork for the machines.

There are now 400+ artists supplying artwork for 200+ machines across the US and internationally.

How does it work?

Purchase a token for $, then pull the knob for the artist you would like. Our machine has 9 slots for 9 different artists.

Each piece of original artwork is one-of-a-kind!
